Tigers Varsity Baseball Wins Mudsock Game 5-1 Over Royals

The #2 Fishers Tigers Varsity Baseball Team (13-2/7-0) wins the annual Mudsock Trophy with a 5-1 win over crosstown rival Southeastern Royals. The Tigers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 2nd. Luke Cherry led off the inning with a double to right field. Two outs later, Mayo Fernandez continued to swing a hot bat with an RBI single to centerfield to plate Cherry. The Tigers added 4 more runs in the 4th to extend their lead to 5-0. Zander Carnahan led off the inning with a single to right field. Cherry bunted Carnahan to 2nd. Trevor Hall walked, and Jase Ruggles reached on an error on his sacrifice bunt to load the bases. Fernandez ripped a ball off the diving 3rd baseman’s glove for a 2-run single. Two batters later Brady Carman lined a 2-run single into right centerfield. Owen Sanders (4-0) pitched well in his complete game victory allowing an unearned run in the 5th. Sanders struck out 6, allowed 4 hits, and walked 4. Fernandez led the Tigers with a 2-3, 3RBI night. Cherry also delivered 2 hits, including a double. Carman contributed a single and 2 RBI. The victory was the Tigers 5th straight Mudsock win. The Tigers have won 7 of the last 8 Mudsocks and are 11-6 overall in the battle for the Mudsock Trophy. The Tigers return to action on Thursday when they host the same Royals in Game 2 of the Hoosier Crossroads Series.
