The #7 Fishers Tigers Varsity Baseball Team (7-0/2-0) completed the sweep of Mt. Vernon Marauders winning 9-6 in Game 1 and 3-2 in Game 2. In Game 1, the Tigers jumped out to an early 6-2 lead, scoring 2 runs in the 1st and 4 runs in the 2nd. The Marauders opened the game scoring 2 unearned runs in the top of the 1st. The Tigers answered right back to tie the game in the bottom of the 1st. Luke Cherry plated Huston Dunn with an RBI single. With Zander Carnahan on 3rd, Cherry executed a delayed steal drawing a throw to 2nd to allow Carnahan to score. Mayo Fernandez led off the 2nd with a single to right. Justin Brown and Deagan Repp followed with back-to-back bunt singles to load the bases. Dunn earned an RBI with a bases loaded walk before Carnahan cleared the bases with a 3-run double to left centerfield. The Tigers bats would go quiet through the next 3 innings, as the Marauders chipped away and eventually tied the score at 6-6 in the top of the 6th. The Tigers once again responded. Repp led off the bottom of the 6th with a hustle double down the left field line. Dunn followed with a single to right to put runners on 1st and 3rd. Carnahan delivered the go ahead RBI scoring Repp on an infield single. Cherry scored Dunn with an RBI sacrifice fly, and Trevor Hall added an RBI double to score Carnahan for the final score of 9-6. Carnahan led the Tigers with 2 hits and 4 RBI. Fernandez and Repp both had 2 hits, and Cherry added a hit, sacrifice fly, and 2 RBI. Dunn and Hall both added an RBI. Hall (1-0) earned the victory on the mound. He entered the game with bases loaded, 1 out, and a 6-5 lead in the top of the 6th. After walking in the tying run, Hall stopped the Marauder rally with a strikeout and groundout. Once again, Hall also displayed outstanding defense in right field. Hall made a diving catch on a line drive, quickly stood up and threw out a runner at the plate to end the 5th inning. The outfield assist was Hall’s 5th of the young season, which already set the school’s single season outfield assist record in just the first 6 games. Grant Wolf started the game and earned a no decision throwing 3 innings, allowing 4 hits and 0 earned runs, while striking out 3 and walking 4. Quinn Distler pitched 1.1 innings of relief allowing 1 earned run. Osney Oberto pitched 1 inning of relief and allowed 2 earned runs. Jase Ruggles picked up his 2nd save of the season pitching a scoreless 7th with 2 strikeouts. In Game 2, the Tigers jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the 1st. Deagan Repp led off with a double down the right field line. Two batters later, Zander Carnahan delivered an RBI double to left. Collin Hebert finished the scoring with a 2-run single. The Tigers bats once again disappeared, as the Tigers could only muster 1 more hit the rest of the game, but the 3 runs in the 1st were all they needed in the victory. Starting pitcher Reid Garber (1-0) was outstanding on the mound and kept the Marauder batters off balance. Garber did not allow a run in his 5 innings of work. Garber only allowed 3 hits and 1 walk, while striking out 2. Carter Strole pitched the final 2 innings for his 1st save of the season. Strole struck out 4 of his 6 outs, but did allowed 2 runs on 3 hits. The #7 Tigers return to action on Monday when they play #9 Homestead Spartans at Taylor University. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30pm.
